How To Hold A Bowling Ball

Bowling Secret: Proper knowledge is an important key to doing things the correctly. Before We can go into how to hold a bowling ball I must explain that there are a few different grips in bowling. (I will list them below.)

The Different Grips In Bowling
  1. The conventional grip.
  2. The semi or relaxed finger tip grip.
  3. The full or stretched finger tip grip.

There are other more advanced bowling grips but in the beginning stages of bowling you will not need them. A beginning bowler should start out with the basic conventional grip, and then incrementally progress into the more advanced grips, the semi and full finger tip grips.

Beginner Bowling Tip

The Four Step Approach In Ten Pin Bowling

How To Do The 4 Step Bowling Approach

This is a beginners bowling tip for those that are new to the sport of bowling and is one of the first things you should learn. You should learn this after learning how to find a good fitting bowling ball, and that is the 4 step approach, with a little practice can come rather quickly even though it may feel awkward at first.

80 to 90 percent of being a good bowler is in your approach, so a smooth approach is a very important part of the physical aspect of the game of bowling. You should not march up to the foul line like a soldier or have a choppy look and feel to your approach.

I have seen many newer and not so new bowlers have a very difficult time with this. The bowling approach is a smooth and fluent motion with a rhythm like a small dance with only 4 steps.

Find a properly fitted bowling ball with a conventional grip. We will discuss balls and ball fit, and make recommendations on choosing a bowling ball in later articles. I do not think you should spend money on an expensive ball when you're just starting out, but I do recommend getting a name-brand ball from a pro-shop, bowling center, or on online retailer.
